We stan an unproblematic king and over the past few months, despite his ongoing familial drama, one former B2K member has proven to be exactly that.

Last year, Apryl Jones and Fizz announced their relationship, effectively sending both the internet and Black Twitter into a tizzy but among the people who seemed the least upset about the news was Apryl’s co-parent and Fizz’s former bandmate, Omarion. And I don’t know about you, but I’m trying to radiate that frequency of booked, busy, and unbothered all damn year.

In a recent interview with Madame Noire, the 35-year-old R&B singer finally revealed how he really feels about the drama in his personal life, and according to him, self-work was the key to finding real peace. Letting go of the things of you can’t control is a superpower, one that Omarion says took a helluva lot of self-reflection to master. He explained:

“Really, when you take a step back and you really know yourself, you’re able to make better decisions. So to be honest with you, I just did a lot of self-reflecting and I realized, a lot of situations and circumstances are really out of your control. The only power you have is the way that you react. In order to really get a grip on that, you almost have to go through all of the emotions. You have to go through the ups and downs to really be able to root yourself and focus on what’s important.”

Ultimately, Omarion says that after weighing the cause and effect of his potential actions moving forward, he’s decided to choose peace over public bickering.

“You’ve got to self-reflect in order to become wise enough or mature enough to recognize that if you’re going to make a decision about something, there’s consequences and you have to be okay with those consequences.”

In the interview, Omarion also opened up about the real reason behind his split with Apryl and he took full responsibility for the relationship’s ultimate conclusion.

“This will be my 20th year in the music industry. So at that time, I was asking myself a lot of questions. I just had kids. I was like, why am I doing this? I needed a moment to be able to just recalibrate and refocus and really think about what I wanted to do.”

While Omarion says that it was his decision to end the relationship, he explained that their lack of compatibility was evident before their breakup. He continued:

“I would really attribute her not understanding to lack of communication and upbringing. I was raised a little bit different than she was raised and I think that is really, at the end of the day, always a thing in relationships. It’s just miscommunication and different love languages. So that’s what I would really attribute it to. People grow and some people grow out of each other. I would say that is, from my perspective, truly is what happened.”

Despite their ongoing drama, Omarion maintains that he’ll always uphold his respect for Apryl in the media for the sake of his kids because nobody wins when the family feuds:

“So I just made the decision to be respectful to my kids and to be respectful to myself because it’s like, everybody is like, ‘I would respond like this,’ or I would respond like that, but what happens after that? And then also, it’s like, what am I here for? Am I here for that? No. I’m here for my kids. Truly.”
