“Everytime I’m in Vegas, they screaming like he’s Elvis.” Well, truth be told, if there is indeed levels to this – Kanye West isn’t a far stretch.
Headlining Las Vegas’ Life Is Beautiful Festival last night, Kanye showed up and delivered a riveting yet toned down Ye’-rant performance. It could’ve been due to the fact it was Kim Kardashian’s birthday or simply because the title of the festival set the tone – either way, Mr. West kept the crowd in good company as he opted to drop a few Yeezy-isms to declare he is indeed a happy man.
Taking his signature white-embezzled mask off after performing “Runaway” from his My Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye took a moment to say, “This is the part that gets me in trouble.” Expecting to hear a mouthful of satire, he explained his diligence in being honest and the value of speaking your mind. “Everybody has a right to their opinion, so why do I always get in trouble for speaking mine?”, going on to say, “the media doesn’t want anybody to express no real motherf*cking opinions.”
Trimming his usual half-an-hour ramblings, West went on to explain that all he ever aspires to do is give people inspiration to be whoever they want to be and noting his rambunctious, villain demeanor as an expression to create freely. “When you have to put up some kind of facade, you have to think a lot about what the lie is. But to me, f**k that I’d rather just tell the truth.”
Although he kept it rather humble than what we typically anticipate, West made mention of his portfolio of paid dues before reaching where he is at now, citing The Blueprint 1 & 3, to his handling on Common, John Legend and G.O.O.D. label artists albums. Performing songs off College Dropout and 808s and Heartbreak, to closing his set with an encore repeat of “N*ggas In Paris”, Kanye declared his love for life by saying, “Y’all have to understand how happy I am right now in all actuality. I’m just happy to see my daughter’s first smile and how happy I am to see my beautiful wife, who is here with me, and we’re going to celebrate her birthday again at Tao tonight – and they didn’t pay me to say that.”
Kanye West closed out Day 1 of Las Vegas’ second annual Life Is Beautiful Festival, where The Weeknd performed prior to his finale. The festival also boasted acts from Phantogram, Girl Talk, ASTR, and Las Vegas’ own Panic! at the Disco and will continue to roll through the rest of the weekend, as Outkast headlines Day 2 tonight.
