*Steve Harvey is at the center of a $43 million federal lawsuit over accusations of illegally broadcasting music without authorization for his hit daytime talk show.
Court documents obtained by theJasmineBrand.com reveal the music publishing company We 3 Kings filed a federal lawsuit against Harvey and the production companies behind his self-titled TV show.
According to We 3 Kings, a total of 268 unlicensed songs were used during the broadcast of season 2 of Harvey’s hit show. The company reportedly goes on to state they never agreed to let Harvey or his show use their music catalog. We 3 Kings claims Harvey illegally choose to play the songs they own without authorization.
As a result, the company stated that Harvey’s actions may lead to all of their executives filing for bankruptcy, in light of them now not being able to license the songs to other shows, radio programs and advertisements.
We 3 Kings is demanding $43 million in damages from the suit plus more for each channel that syndicates and re-broadcasts “The Steve Harvey Show.” In addition, the company is reportedly demanding an injunction against Steve Harvey from continuing to illegally use their music.
At this time, no response has been given from Harvey’s camp regarding the lawsuit. For a look at the court documents, click here.
