Your week just took a major twist, Prince fans: The iconic star has announced a Thursday show in Detroit.

The impromptu concert brings Prince back for the first time in 11 years to a city he once regarded as a second hometown. This time he’ll be accompanied by 3rdEyeGirl, the all-female band that has been backing him for the past year.

Tonight’s announcement did not disclose a venue, which will be revealed when the on-sale starts at noon Monday at LiveNation.com.

Detroit will be the second stop of Prince’s 2015 Hit & Run Tour, which embraces the pop-up show model he deployed last year in Europe. Each show is being announced one by one, just days ahead of time. The U.S. run started last month in Louisville, where he played four shows in two nights.

Tonight’s show announcement says a portion of show proceeds will go to local charities.

The Thursday performance will be Prince’s first here since the summer of 2004, when he played three nights at the Palace of Auburn Hills and one at Joe Louis Arena. In the past, Prince has also shown an affinity for more intimate Detroit venues: He played the State Theatre (now Fillmore) in 1998 and the Detroit Opera House in 2002.

Prince, 56, has been on an especially prolific run the past several years, with regular touring and a series of album releases, including a pair that hit simultaneously on Sept. 30: “Plectrumelectrum” (with 3rdEyeGirl) and “Art Official Age.”
