Kanye Admits: I’m Braggadocios and I’m an A**hole Sometimes

Kanye West came out the gate as a self proclaimed “a**hole” in 2005, when he likened himself to former label boss Dame Dash on “The College Dropout”; and went from “a**hole” to “international a**hole” on his very next album. In an interview with LA’s REAL 92.3 on Friday [June 3], the G.O.O.D. Music innovator, who once made a song that raised a toast to “the a**holes”, reaffirmed his a-hole status in response to a question on how he feels about being viewed as such.

“I am braggadocios, and I am an a**hole sometimes and stuff. I mean aye, it’s just the truth man, But I’m Ye man, ain’t nothing else you could do about it man, I can’t be somebody else. If I was to have tried to be somebody else my entire life I wouldn’t be sitting here today. It’s just who I am,” Ye told radio host, Big Boy.

Aside from the technical aspects that are required from a music producer, or the command over literary devices one must have as a writer, there comes with being a hip-hop artist, the identity you present with your work, the your image, your brand. Not long into Kanye’s career, fans and critics could depend on Ye to deliver the caricature of a brash, witty success story with a confidence that more than bordered on conceit.

“I came to do what I did, you know, I innovated, I know that, I know that I’m the champion, I know I changed the game, greatest artist of the last twenty years,” declared Kanye. “I know people don’t want me to say it but it is what it is, and I can only tell you that this is my truth.”
