Dot links back up with George Clinton.

For his latest, Dot links back up with George Clinton — the frontman of Funkadelic and his “Wesley’s Theory” collaborator — for a remix of “Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard On You.” And, wow, that funkin’ is hard.

“Yo, George, they say they want some more,” Kendrick shouts before his verse on the song, which originally appeared on Funkadelic’s 2014 album First Ya Gotta Shake the Gate. Yes. Yes, we do.

It makes sense that these two would link back, given what the Compton native said about their last go ’round.

“This is one of my favorite records off the joint,” Kendrick told MTV News earlier this year of his Clinton collaboration. “First off, the lyrics is me going back to the feeling of what I wanted to do when I got signed. These are actually real thoughts… The overall theme of the record, why I love it so much is because it talks about something we weren’t taught in school when we get this money… So, you mean to tell me the moment I become successful and I get this money — and I don’t know how to manage my money — that you’re gonna throw me back in jail for taxes?”

These two definitely cook up some magic together — but Dot wasn’t the first rap artist Clinton has collaborated with. His influence on hip-hop is undeniable, from the up-tempo, funky sonics of he and his band’s music, to his vocals, which sound like they’re ancestors of cadences and intonations we hear from MCs today.

For another taste of Clinton and some rap greats, check out “Synthesizer,” off of OutKast’s 1998 album Aquemini.
