As you may recall, a little over a year ago the three remaining Boyz II Men singers- Nathan, Wanya, and Sean, did an interview where they’d finally revealed the truth behind why the bass singer for the group, Michael McCary, is no longer with them. After years of specualetion and folks constantly asking ‘Where Mike at?’ it was good to get a lil’ bit of clarity from them on that. They said it had a lot to do with money, lack of committment on Mike’s end, and his scoliosis claims.
Well a few months ago, Michael decided to tell his side of what went down and why he’s not singing that bass line with his BIIM brothers. His version sounds slightly different from what his former group members version is though.
In a brief clip that was posted on Youtube, Michael confirmed that after leaving the group, he eventually made several calls to talk things out with them, but that they never came to an agreement because of this:
“For four years…I’ve been working out my body to get my health right, to get my body right…get my mind right. It’s time to just go ‘head and move forward. The initial thing was we were supposed to do a reuinion a couple years back and it all came down to money. It all came down to the fellas wanted to split three ways, instead four ways and wanted to pay me basically like a baggage handler. And it just…just didn’t make sense to me.”
As far as where Michael is placing his focus now, he says he’s pursuing the idea of becoming a radio personality, which in our opinion is an excellent field for him, he has a great voice for some type of grown folks listening station. He’s also focusing on continuing to build his acting career and he has never stopped singing, writing and producing music. He also had this to say:

one of the biggest groups known to man…and it happened to a magnitude well beyond what I could have imagined. And then it’s like you know I kinda lost sight a lil’ bit in God, you know going through all that pain and all that stuff.
But then, he [God] also told me that was going to happen. He let me know “Okay yeah, you gon’ be inside the biggest group known to man, then you gon’ have to part ways because I have something else for you to do. You know what I’m saying and I was fighting it, I’m like ‘Dude you just gave me the biggest blessing, now you telling me to part ways with this?!! He’s like “I gave you that blessing. Imagine what I have in store for you if I’m removing you from that.”
And it’s amazing, so now…I’ve done all these blessings and all these things throughout my lifetime…and I don’t do them for rewards or anything like that, but now…I get this call from the Prestige Awards and I dissappeared off of the face of the earth. It was impossible for people to find me. All of a sudden I get a call on my cell that’s not even published to anybody…and they say ‘Hey we’re honoring you on the Prestige Awards for all of your commitments of what you’ve done in society- For Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America, for the Cancer Foundation, for the…Make A Wish foundation.’ And I do these things ’cause I love it…I have fun in it…So I’mma take this as a page one in the book…and now chapters are starting to be written.”
Overall, it sounds like no matter how many hardships and arguments Michael, Sean, Wanya, and Nathan have one thing that remains clear, is that there is true brotherly love among all four of them. In fact in 2012, they managed to all come together for a rare appearance during their induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame when they received their own Hollywood Star. They had not been together in years and things got really emotional was they started speaking on the realness behind their relationship and their journey. Check it out below…
