Drake and his right-hand-man producer Noah ’40’ Shebib were interviewed by Nardwuar the human serviette this week and discussed Jay Z’s battle with Big L.

During the interview Nardwuar hands several gifts to Drake and 40 including a vinyl copy of Big L’s “Lifestyles of the Poor and Dangerous.” Drake reacts by handing the mic to 40 who holds the late rapper in the highest regard. “I’m a DITC (Digging in the Crates) guy so Big L was an important one to me,” said 40. Nardwuar follows up the statement by bringing up Big L’s battle with Jay Z and says it was a tie and then asks Drake and 40 if they agreed with his statement. “It was a tie,” said Drake who reacted with a laugh and a nod while asking 40 his opinion. 40 remains supportive of both Jay Z in Big L throughout the discussion. “You can pick a side, you know I was a Big L guy, but we can say it is a tie. Jay [Z] has his W. He’s good,” said 40. Drake goes on to call them both “great emcees” and mentions that Jay Z has “a few Ws.”

The interview, which is over one hour, also features Drake talking about his love for Jamaica and Dancehall music, reminiscing over the old days with pictures of him and 40 from ten years ago, and raps from Degrassi. One of the most compelling statements made by Drake is when he’s discussing his Grammy-nominated Meek Mill diss record “Back to Back.” “It was a reaction to someone trying to challenge my integrity and that’s pretty much what’s going to happen anytime that happens,” said Drake. He also let listeners know that he did not write the “Spinners Rap” recited by Nardwuar used on Degrassi, but celebrated the fact that it was one of the first times he got to rhyme on TV.  “I think they gave me an opportunity after that to write a real song myself. I don’t think I wrote those bars, believe it or not. But that was really the first time rap showed its face on Degrassi,” he said.

Drake doesn’t do much press with his only other recent interview being with Zane Lowe for his “VIEWS” release. The album is one of his fast selling to date moving over 800,000 units in the first week of its release.
