NYPD watchdog group Police Reform Organizing Project (PROP) analyzed demographics of the 6,604 weed-related arrests this year, and they found that a disproportionate amount of Black and Latinx New Yorkers were impacted. PROP found the 93% of the people arrested for weed this year were people of color.

Mayor Bill de Blasio has been working on efforts to reform the NYPD after “stop-and-frisk” showed implicit bias against people of color.
