Suge Knight is reportedly suing Dr. Dre for hiring a hitman to kill him, reports TMZ.
According to the claims, Suge says he had a lifetime management deal with Dre, which entitled him to a 30% cut of Dre’s earnings. However, Suge alleges Dre tried to cut him out of the hefty Beats earnings because Apple, which bought out Beats from Dre for $3 billion back in 2014, didn’t want its brand associated with Suge. The lawsuit maintains that Dre’s solution was to hire a hitman to kill Suge at 1 OAK during the 2014 VMAs pre-party hosted by Chris Brown. That night, Suge was shot six times, but he successfully recovered after being taken to the hospital.
The suit states that the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept. questioned a man named T-Money who told investigators he was paid by Dre to kill Suge. Suge adds that despite 37 cameras in 1 OAK that night, no arrests were ever made.
In 2015, Suge struck Cle “Bone” Sloan with his truck, seriously injuring him and ran over Terry Carter and killed him. Suge was charged with premeditated murder, but he maintains that the tragic incident was an accident and that he was trying to escape an ambush. The suit claims that Dre and Universal, which produced “Straight Outta Compton,” Sloan $300,000, insinuating that he would handle Suge. After the accident, TMZ reported that Suge made the trip to the set of he movie to make amends with Dr. Dre, but left after a shoving fight with Dre’s security. After he left, Carter contacted him to meet up at a separate location, which is where Suge says he got jumped.
Suge is suing Dre, Apple, Universal and Tam’s for unspecified damages. His damages include 30% of Dre’s Beats sale, which equals about $300 million. A representative for Dr. Dre responded to the suit with an official comment.”Given that Dre has had zero interaction with Suge since leaving Death Row Records in 1996, we hope that Suge’s lawyer has lots of malicious prosecution insurance,” the lawyer wrote in an email to Fader. We’ll continue to update this story as more details become available.
