After taking Ronda Rousey’s title at UFC 193, the new Bantamweight champ sides with ‘Rowdy’s’ eternal foe in the ‘best boxer ever’ debate
Forget about Justin Bieber, it looks like Floyd Mayweather has found a new friend for life: UFC Bantamweight champ Holly Holm.
Whether or not Mayweather is the greatest boxer of all time is a debate that will never die. While Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson are widely recognized as fighters for the ages, Mayweather’s sparkling 49-0 record certainly puts him in the discussion. Some believe it’s just enough to push him over the edge, while others think that’s absolutely absurd.
Whatever the case may be, Mayweather has made his feelings on the subject rather clear – not surprisingly, he thinks he’s No. 1, followed by Roberto Duran, Pernell Whitaker, Julio Cesar Chavez and Ali. And it seems he’s not alone in that assessment. At least not according to Holm, who knows a thing or two about boxing.
Over the weekend, Holm was in Las Vegas to catch the Canelo Alvarez – Miguel Cotto fight, and was asked by Fight Hype about hanging courtside with Mayweather earlier in the week at a Clippers/Warriors game. Not only did she say it was amazing, she fumbled her words before putting herself right in the middle of the lifelong debate – and further distancing herself from her opponent at UFC 193 (and Floyd’s eternal foe), Ronda Rousey.
“It was awesome,” Holm said. “Just to be able to meet one of the greatest, I mean, the greatest of all time, you know? He’s the only one that’s ever been able to do it undefeated.”
Uh, maybe she forgot about Rocky Marciano? He retired with the same exact record as Mayweather, and he stayed undefeated without ever receiving a single four-woman massage. Hey, it’s good to be the G.O.A.T.
