When they said the ’90s were back in, they really weren’t kidding. The latest ’90s revival queens have been TLC, the girl group who moved the globe with their baggy clothes and provocative lyrics.
After the TLC biopic aired on VH1 and shattered records as one of the most watched TV movies in history, the girls are back at it, and this time with V Magazine.
The magazine released a timely, and friggin’ amazing, editorial starring the remaining members of the girl group, T-Boz and Chilli. With the return of ’90s trends, it wasn’t hard to outfit the ladies in updated looks reminiscent of their days in the spotlight.
Here’s what TLC had to say in the interview…
According to T-Boz, Lil Mama fit into Left Eye’s original costumes. Creepy:
“Lil Mama wore Lisa’s [costumes], because she was that size, but the other two are more top heavy, because, you know, we’re the tittiless crew, T-L-C, Titty-Less Crew, so those outfits had to be re-created.”
Chilli on her abs:
“I’m going to be 85 years old, still with a six pack. I’m not playing,” says Thomas with a laugh. “I’m going to have these abs until I go home to Jesus.”
Chilli on girl power in the music industry:
”I don’t think you can ever have enough records about self-esteem and loving yourself and not taking no crap, especially females,” says Chilli. “That girl-power thing is just missing [in music] right now. And it’s not like we’re in the studio trying to make songs like this—we’re naturally like that, so it naturally comes. We’re still being who we are. And be saying that, it’s going to help a lot of people. And that’s all we care about. We want jams to make you jam but at the same time make you think.”
