Former NFL player Carl Weathers, who transitioned into a successful acting career, has passed away at the age of 76.
Weathers’ family released a statement that read, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers. Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner and friend.”
Weathers, who was a linebacker in the NFL, went on to star in as boxer Apollo Creed opposite Sylvester Stallone in the Rocky films. He also starred in Predator, Happy Gilmore, and as Greef Karga on the Star Wars series The Mandalorian. Weathers also had a memorable role as “Chubbs” in the 1996 golf comedy Happy Gilmore with Adam Sandler.
