During the late 80s and early 90s, pop and soul music fans found a favorite in the smooth group, Surface. With hits like “Happy” and “Closer Than Friends” and a string of ballads like “Shower Me With Your Love,” the team of flutist David “Pic” Conley, guitarist David Townsend, and vocalist Bernard Jackson, spent a half decade topping the charts.
The group split awhile ago and, sadly, Townsend died. But Conley, who began his career as part of the influential funk band Mandrill, is back with singer John Feva to form an updated version of Surface, now called ReSurface. And the duo is readying their debut album for release later this year.
ReSurface opens with a song that has the distinctive classic Surface sound to it. Check out “Diamonds and Pearls,” our newest SoulTracks First Listen, and tell us what you think!
