. Said marketing campaign has attracted some critics though, including rapper and “Power” executive producer, 50 Cent, who said that “Empire” stole their promotional ideas from his show:
“POWER Season 2 is unbelievably good trust me. I have the best writers and show runner. I like Terrence Howard and Taraji Henson. I don’t like that they would copy the marketing.”
The rapper would also go on to share a side-by-side image of both shows’ main characters, James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Lucius Lyon, asking social media followers to choose which one they prefer.
As the show prepares to air tomorrow and the stars do their media rounds, a fan asked Henson what she thought about 50’s criticism, and clearly, Henson isn’t worried about anything he has to say:
While I haven’t had the chance to see “Empire” as of yet, based on what my coworkers who went to screenings said, it’s more about a successful family, how they’re constructed and interact, and each individual’s struggle for power. Now, “Power” is more focused on “Ghost,” his work in the drug trade (and hopes to go legitimate), and his relationship with his mistress, vs. his relationship with his wife. Similar strong protagonists, similar money-hungry wives–but that’s about it. I for one enjoy “Power” for the most part, but I’m also interested in seeing what “Empire” has to offer.
