SECOND AALIYAH BIOPIC REPORTEDLY IN THE WORKS WITH FAMILY INVOLVEMENT

If Lifetime’s biopic on Aaliyah doesn’t tickle your fancy perhaps a feature film will. Singer B. Simone has reportedly been tapped to play the late star for a second project.

According to Sister 2 Sister, another biopic is in the works to center on the 22-year-old songstress who died in a tragic plane crash. But unlike the made-for-TV movie, this film will hit big screens and her former manager/uncle is reportedly involved.

Shadow and Act reports erotica author Zane will pen the script and the film is slated for a 2015 release. The author shared a link to the Sister 2 Sister article on her Facebook page of almost 1 million followers.

Terrence Howard and Wood Harris have been named as potential co-stars.

“We’re in a position where we can do the feature film and we can do the music,” said a source close to production. Per Sister 2 Sister, the big screen biopic will include the star’s hit songs as well as never-before-released music.

The Lifetime biopic starring Alexandra Shipp has had a lot of hiccups. Its first star, Zendaya Colemandropped out of the project following critiques of her not looking like the “4 Page Letter” singer. The family also denounced the film saying Aaliyah deserved a big screen movie. In a statement, the Haughton family said:

“Lifetime Television is trying to dictate the status of our heroes, our heroines and – in this case – our beloved Aaliyah. We implore everyone to call Lifetime Television, send emails and bombard social media so they know we demand respect for our cultural icons.

We will not sit idly by while they misrepresent and reap profits from our luminaries. There is more at stake than the public could imagine.”

Lifetime’s TV movie is scheduled for a fall debut, but those associated with the feature film think people will still want to see their movie.

“I think if we do our due-diligence, people will watch the TV movie and still say, ‘I need to see the feature film,’” the source said.

If Aaliyah’s mom, brother, ex-boyfriend Dame Dash and producers like Timbaland and Missy aren’t involved, can either of these biopics fully capture who the “One in a Million” singer really was?
