After a monumental 2017 for Kendrick Lamar that included the chart and critical success of his latest album DAMN, which garnered him multiple Grammy nominations, and the corresponding tour, K.Dot is slotted to perform during the halftime show of the largest college football game of the year.
On January 8th, Lamar will take the stage and will look to entertain one of the largest crowds in all of American sports. In an announcement video, ESPN Lamar looks poised to electrify the stage.
While no confirmation on what the performance will look like or what songs will be included in it; Lamar is known for his visual statements to accompany his musical and lyric message.
In 2016, K.Dot made waves at the Grammys with a performance that included To Pimp a Butterfly‘s “The Blacker the Berry” where Lamar makes a commentary on the violence wrought on black bodies while celebrating or engaging in violence between black bodies.
Anticipating a musically brilliant moment that makes a statement on conditions in the nation, Lamar looks to take a page from Beyonce and bring a socially-aware brand of entertainment to college sports, especially one as huge and widely viewed as the College Football Championship.
