Chris Rock // Chris Rock

While Jussie Smollett is looking to move forward after the 16 felony charges for allegedly staging his attack were dismissed, Chris Rock still has a few choice words for the “Empire” actor.

During last night’s NAACP Image Awards, Rock presented the award for Outstanding Comedy Series. However, before introducing the nominees and announcing the winner (which was “Black-ish”), he broke the rules of the show by making a few jokes about Smollett.

“I get to present an award. They said no Jussie Smollett jokes,” he began. “I know. I know. What a waste of light skin, you know? You know what I could do with that light skin? That curly hair? My career would have out of here. Running Hollywood.”

Rock didn’t stop there; after the crowd laughed, he continued, “What the hell was he thinking? You Jesse from now on. You don’t even get the ‘U’ no more. That ‘U’ was respect.”

He ended the short monologue with, “You ain’t getting no respect from me.”

Smollett, who skipped this year’s ceremony, was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role on “Empire.” The award, which was given out at a dinner on Friday night (Mar. 29), went to Jesse Williams for his role on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Meanwhile, things between the Chicago Police Department and Kim Foxx, the Cook County state’s attorney who prosecuted the Smollett case, have been tense. On Friday (Mar. 29), Foxx wrote an op-ed in The Chicago Tribunestating that she welcomed an “outside, nonpolitical review” of how she handled the case.

“Yes, falsely reporting a hate crime makes me angry, and anyone who does that deserves the community’s outrage,” Foxx wrote. “But, as I’ve said since before I was elected, we must separate the people at whom we are angry from the people of whom we are afraid.”

Foxx revealed there were “specific aspects of the evidence and testimony presented” that made securing a conviction unlikely.

She admitted that the class 4 felony Smollett was charged with is in the same class as pulling a fire alarm at a school or “draft card mutilation.” Foxx said, “routinely resolved, particularly in cases involving suspects with no prior criminal record, long before a case ever nears a courtroom and often without either jail time or monetary penalties.”

Two weeks ago, the Fraternal Order of Police sent a letter to the Department of Justice requesting an investigation against Foxx. They accused her of trying to influence Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson to turn Smollett’s case over to the FBI.

Currently, the mayor of Chicago is seeking $130,000 from Smollett to cover the cost of the initial hate crime investigation.
