What’s the best way to annoy Donald Trump? Steal the spotlight from him. And it looks like a key Democrat with some celebrity connections plans to do that on January 20, Inauguration Day.
POLITICO reports a Democratic concert promoter plans on staging a huge “We the People” concert in Miami to compete with the president-elect’s inauguration.
‘EXCLUSIVE: DEPT OF THINGS PEOTUS WON’T LIKE — MARK ROSS, a concert promoter and the son of the late Time Warner CEO Steve Ross, is in the process of putting together a large-scale concert called “We the People” to DIRECTLY compete with Donald Trump’s inauguration.’
Unlike Team Trump — which can’t find any A-list acts to perform on Inauguration Day — event organizers say they’ll have no problem lining up performers for the anti-inauguration bash.
‘The organizers are looking to hold the event in Miami on Inauguration Day. “The talent is banging on our doors to do this,” according to a source familiar with the planning, although not a single act has been revealed as of yet. Ross is in the midst of lining up funding, according to a source.’
That’s not surprising, given all the big names who supported Hillary Clinton and performed at her events. These included Beyoncé and Jay Z, Madonna, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Bruce Springsteen, and Elton John.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s planners can’t even find enough college and high school marching bands for his Inauguration Day parade.
The idea for staging a concert that would steal Donald Trump’s presidential thunder took flight on Sunday, thanks to top economist Robert Reich. The former labor secretary for President Bill Clinton and economics professor at U.C. Berkeley posted on his Facebook page that someone had suggested to him “a televised ‘freedom concert’” that would air “at the same time as the inauguration.”
To add insult to injury, Saturday Night Live‘s star Trump impersonator Alec Baldwin could host.
Oh but wait, there’s more. Robert Reich declares, “Presto. The Trump inauguration loses all the TV ratings. Basically, no one watches it.” Well, except for those die hard Trump fans. And here comes the kicker…Proceeds from the concert could go to all of the non-profits Donald Trump, his supporters, and his fellow Republicans hate.
‘Even better, the proceeds of the freedom concert go to the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Lambda Legal, NAACP, Common Cause, CAIR, IRAP, SPLC, Environmental Defense Fund, Human Rights Campaign Fund, MoveOn, Economic Policy Institute, Inequality Media, and GLAD.’
Robert Reich then asked, “What do you think?” Apparently, some think it’s a great idea.
