Big Sean will host the first “Detroit’s On Now” weekend June 21-25, the Detroit rapper’s Sean Anderson Foundation announced Monday.
The celebration will include a June 23 block party, a youth engagement event on June 24 and several other functions tied to the city’s music and art communities.
Big Sean is set to host a private fundraiser to benefit the Motown Museum’s expansion efforts on June 21. Attendance is limited to 100 attendees through sponsorship packages.
The June 23 block party will be open to the public and will be held from noon-10 p.m. at the Ford Resource and Engagement Center on the city’s east side, near Seven Mile and Hayes. The party will include food trucks, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a live DJ and more.
From 5-8 p.m. June 24, the “Occupy the Corner” event, presented by Detroit City Councilwoman Mary Sheffield, will focus on voter registration efforts, employment training and more.
Other events tied to the D.O.N. weekend include a fashion challenge presented by Puma and a riverfront event for local students tied to the Ford Fireworks on June 25. For more, visit the D.O.N. website at donweekend.org.
