As deliberations are set to begin today for Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s drug conspiracy trial, witnesses have come forward with perhaps the most damning testimony against the accused drug lord yet. It’s now been reported that unsealed court documents reveal that El Chapo has been accused of paying for sex from young girls, whom he described as “vitamins” who gave him “life.”

One of the cooperating witnesses told investigators that around 2007 he helped Guzman drug girls as young as 13 by placing a “powdery substance” in their drinks before El Chapo had sex with them. The witness, who lived with El Chapo, testified that an associate of El Chapo known as “Commadre Maria” regularly sent the defendant photos of girls as young as 13. From there, it’s been reported that El Chapo would pay approximately $5,000 for the girl of his choice to be delivered to one of his ranches. The cooperating witness then clarified to investigators that on occasion, the accused drug lord had underage sex without drugging the victims. It should be noted that “Commadre Maria” was also earlier referenced as the woman who allegedly delivered a bribe of $100 million to Enrique Peña Nieto, who served as the President of Mexico from 2012 to 2018.

Despite the fact that the court document states that other witnesses have corroborated these details, El Chapo’s attorney, Eduardo Balarezo, said his client denies the “extremely salacious” allegations that “lack any corroboration and were deemed too prejudicial and unreliable to be admitted at trial.” Balarezo then added that “it is unfortunate that the material was publicly released just prior to the jury beginning deliberations.” Ultimately, however, the documents were ordered unsealed by US District Judge Brian Cogan at the request of The New York Times and Vice News.

The documents had been sealed because prosecutors had convinced the court that the allegations were “irrelevant” to the drug conspiracy charges against El Chapo, who already is facing 10 federal counts that can find him spending the rest of his life in prison.
