Scott Sterling, the 32-year-old son of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, was found dead in his Malibu home Tuesday night, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Sterling had not been seen by family or friends for at least two days, according to an L.A. County Sheriff’s Department spokesman. No one else was at the home when the body was discovered, according to the sheriff’s department.

A sheriff’s spokesman said his office is investigating the death as a possible drug overdose.

The younger Sterling was not involved with the Clippers, according to the team’s 2012-13 media guide.

In 1999, a fight between Scott Sterling and friend at Donald Sterling’s home in Beverly Hills ended with the friend shot, but no charges were ever filed.

Donald Sterling was No. 250 on the Forbes 400 list of richest Americans released in September with a net worth of $1.9 billion. He has owned the Clippers for 32 seasons.

The Clippers released a statement on behalf of Donald T. and Shelly Sterling:

“Our son Scott has fought a long and valiant battle against Type 1 Diabetes.

“His death is a terrible tragedy, the effects of which will be felt forever by our family and all those who knew and loved him. We sincerely appreciate the warm outpouring of sympathy and support from so many of our dear friends.

“At this time, we respectfully ask to be afforded the opportunity to mourn this loss in an appropriately private manner.”

Said NBA Commissioner David Stern in a statement: “On behalf of the NBA family, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Donald and Shelly Sterling on the loss of their son Scott. Our thoughts and sympathies are with the Sterling family at this most difficult time.”

Clippers president Andy Roeser also released a statement: “Today the thoughts and prayers of our organization go out to Donald T. and Shelly Sterling and their children Chris and Joanna, in the wake of this tragic loss. Scott was a friend to many in the Clippers’ family and he will be greatly missed.”
