Snapchat saw a significant hit to its stock value Thursday after Rihanna slammed the super popular social media app for a recent ad which asked, “would you rather slap Rihanna or punch Chris Brown?”
As most will recall, Brown assaulted the Barbadian superstar in 2009 while the two were dating.
“Now SNAPCHAT I know you already know you ain’t my fav app out there,” wrote Rihanna in an Instagram story Thursday morning.
“But I’m just trying to figure out what the point was with this whole mess! I’d love to call it ignorance but you know I ain’t that dumb! You spend money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to DV [domestic violence] victims and make a joke of it!!”
“This isn’t about my personal feelings, cause I don’t’ have much of them…but all the women, children, and men that have been victims of DV in the past and especially the ones who haven’t made it out yet…you let us down!”
The company’s stock value fell more than 4% after Rih Rih’s comment, though Snapchat apologized for the ad the day before.
“The advert was reviewed and approved in error, as it violates our advertising guidelines, the company told the BBC Wednesday. “We immediately removed the ad last weekend, once we became aware.”
“We are sorry this happened,” the company added.
