Kendrick Lamar will premiere m.A.A.d., a 14-minute short film inspired by his good kid, m.A.A.d city album, at Sundance NEXT Fest in Los Angeles, FADER reports. The film was directed by Kahlil Joseph, who also shot portraits of Lamar’s South Central neighborhood that have been shown during his concerts. It will premiere on August 9 at the Ace Hotel Downtown.

A description of the movie on Sundance’s website reads:

Commissioned by Kendrick Lamar for his good kid, m.A.A.d city concert tour, director Kahlil Joseph creates a kaleidoscope of storylines and ideas that defy typical categorization to explore new languages and new forms.

Joseph will also participate in a panel discussion.

Sundance NEXT Fest features pairings of films and musical performances. Tinashe will perform after m.A.A.d. is shown, while other events will feature Father John Misty andWarpaint. Check out all the details at the festival’s website.
