It’s official, Atlanta has given the OK for the Tyler Perry deal at Fort McPhereson.

According to reports, the Atlanta City Council signed off on a deal that would allow for Tyler Perry to turn much of Fort McPherson into a movie studio.

From Bizjournal:

Council members voted 11-1 to support a request by Mayor Kasim Reed to extend a $13 million line of credit, a commitment required by the U.S. Army in order to clean up 22 acres of contaminated brownfields on the site in southwest Atlanta and finalizeTyler Perry Studios’ purchase of 330 acres of the 488-acre former base.Reed brought the proposal to the council under time constraints. In presenting the resolution to council members, the mayor said the deadline for the transaction was April 30. The city originally had hoped to finalize the sale last October.

Tyler Perry wants to use the base to expand the number of studio facilities he currently owns and operates. Currently, Tyler Perry owns over 1000 acre property which features five sound stages, a post-production facility and a 400-seat theater in Southwest Atlanta. But, not everyone was too happy about the deal. Concilwoman Felicia Moore, voted against the resolution saying, “I just can’t stop on a dime and absorb it all,” Moore said. “I’m not ready to move where everybody is.”
