According to Jennifer Brett of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the police report states there was a verbal altercation that turned violent outside Scales 925 on Sunday night. An employee of the restaurant told police five or six men were asked to leave after an argument began and that they continued to fight outside the restaurant. A shot was fired by an unidentified individual, and Rice is the only known victim.

CBS 46’s Jonathan Andrews also reported on the incident.

Rice is a former Georgia Tech standout and the son of three-time NBA All-Star Glen Rice. Rice Jr. fled the scene before he was apprehended by police. Surveillance video shows him throwing a handgun, per the police report.

Officers found a backpack with 240 grams of marijuana and close to $6,000 near the scene. Rice was booked on charges of reckless conduct and possession of marijuana, though an investigation into the altercation is ongoing.

A second-round pick in 2013, Rice appeared in only 16 games across two seasons with the Washington Wizards. He was cut by the team in January and signed with the Vipers after clearing waivers. In 23 games with Rio Grande, he averaged 20.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists. It was his second stint with the club, as he played 42 games during the 2012-13 campaign after being dismissed from the Yellow Jackets.

The Vipers have not released a statement on Rice’s arrest at this time.
