Joaquin Guzman, aka “El Chapo” was previously captured and extradited to the United States for his crimes committed. Now, his lawyers claim he has been suffering in some of the worst conditions in American jail. According to his lawyers, El Chapo cannot buy bottled water, shake hands with any of his lawyers, or see if it is day or not. On top of that, the druglord is religious and cannot get a spanish-speaking priest to meet with him. El Chapo’s lawyers are currently seeking a way to get a more relaxed environment for the druglord.

Many would argue that Guzman is not worthy of conditions other than the one he currently has, as he ran a deadly drug trafficking operation that cost many people their lives. In addition, he escaped from two different prisons in Mexico. In defense papers drawn up by his lawyers, it says that Guzman’s conditions are worst than what a convicted criminal in the “Supermax” prison located in Colorado would receive. Because of that, El Chapo’s attorneys asked a Brooklyn federal judge if Amnesty International could inspect the jail’s conditions to see if they are up-to-date. Guzman’s attorney’s also noted that he works out in his cell by himself, and only was recently allowed to watch DVDs by the prison staff.
