Now a few months removed from the tragic murder of Nipsey Hussle, his peers have continued to mourn the legendary emcee as they’ve tried to make sense of the devastating loss in the culture, with many offering insight as to where as a community we should go from here.

Big Sean happens to be one of the many artists who have honored Nipsey’s legacy since his passing, and recently he made a video where he not only appeared to address Eric Holder directly, but also emphasized the importance of perspective as well as the power of communication.

“You know what I wanted to say to the person who murdered Nipsey and to people like that who take somebody’s life out of impulse or for revenge or whatever the case may be?” Sean said to the camera, “you’re making a permanent solution to a temporary problem.”

“Obviously that’s not how you solve problems,” Sean continued, “I don’t know if we know the value of a life for real, because when you take somebody’s life, you’re setting back their family. You’re setting the whole lineage back generations.”

From there, the Detroit native recalled how his grandmother tirelessly worked for her children and grandchildren, and that even though he’s not a father yet he”s “already working for my kids and my kids’ kids” to help provide a better future.

“When you take somebody’s life, you’re setting all that back. And for what? For something that could have been communicated better?” That point led Sean to speak on the idea that too often black men are taught to communicate through violence and aggression, as he noted that through those methods “we keep losing our Kings.”
