Allen Iverson’s financial woes have been a subject of headlines for years, even late in his NBA career, but to hear the former NBA MVP tell it, none of it is true.

When asked on “CBS This Morning” if it’s true that Iverson burned through more than $150 million and is struggling financially, he replied, “That’s a myth. That’s a rumor.”

“Which part?” Charlie Rose pressed.

“The fact that I’m struggling in any part of my life,” Iverson said. The exchange takes place at the 5:35 mark in the video below.

His response lines up with reports circulating since 2012, originating from Peter Vecsey, saying an account worth $32 million remains untouchable until he is 55. Until then, $1 million reportedly goes to Iverson annually.

But that story is often juxtaposed with ones like Matt Barnes’ recent anecdote, saying Iverson would drop $40,000 in a single trip to a strip club. Iverson has since refuted that claim, saying “I was rich at 21, so ain’t no telling what I may have done, but I know I ain’t do that.”

Iverson was also asked whether anyone had more skills than him, at his best. The answer? “No.”

“I’m the biggest Michael Jordan fan there is,” Iverson said. “He made me want to play the sport. I always wanted to be like Mike.”
